Notes:
- The first generation to formally have a "G" designation was the G3 and the last was the G6.
- P/390, R/390 and 3006 (Integrated Server) are also considered "G2" at a current licensed internal code level
- Linux for S/390 requires a "G5" or later processor or equivalent in 31-bit mode. Linux for IBM Z requires a z/Architecture processor or equivalent in 64-bit mode.
- For information on which Linux distros are supported on which generations go to Linux on IBM Z tested platforms.
- z/VM Level Sets
- z/VM V3 requires a "G2" or later processor or equivalent (Architecture Level Set 1). See the z/VM V3.1 General Information Manual, GC24-5944-01 for more information.
- z/VM V4 requires a "G5" or later processor or equivalent (Architecture Level Set 2). See the z/VM V4.4 General Information Manual, GC24-5991-05 for more information.
- z/VM V5 requires a z/Architecture (z900/z800 or later) processor (Architecture Level Set). See the z/VM V5.4 General Information Manual, GC24-6095-08 for more information.
- z/VM V6R1 requires a System z10 (or later) processor (Architecture Level Set). See the z/VM V6.3 General Information Manual, GC24-6193-10 for more information.
- z/VM V6R4 requires a z196/z114 (or later) processor (Architecture Level Set). See the z/VM V6.4 General Information Manual, GC24-6193-17 for more information.
- z/VM V7R1 requires a zEC12/zBC12 (or later) processor (Architecture Level Set). See the z/VM V7.1 General Information Manual, GC24-6286-03 for more information.
- z/VM V7R2 requires a z13/z13s (or later) processor (Architecture Level Set). See the z/VM V7.2 General Information Manual, GC24-6286-07 for more information.
- z/VM V7R3 requires a z14 (or later) processor (Architecture Level Set). See the z/VM V7.3 General Information Manual, GC24-6286-73 for more information.
- z/OS Level Sets
- z/OS V1 requires the zSeries 900 (z900), zSeries 800 (z800) or later, the 9672 G5 or G6, or the Multiprise 3000
processor. z/OS V1 is not supported on the z15 (or later) processors.
- z/OS V2R1 requires a System z9 (or later) processor. See the z/OS V2R1 Introduction and Release Guide, GA32-0887-01 for more information.
- z/OS V2R2 requires a System z10 (or later) processor. See the z/OS V2R2 Introduction and Release Guide, GA32-0887-08 for more information.
- z/OS V2R3 requires a zEC12/zBC12 (or later) processor. See the z/OS V2R3 Introduction and Release Guide, GA32-0887-30 for more information.
- z/OS V2R4 requires a zEC12/zBC12 (or later) processor. See the z/OS V2R4 Introduction and Release Guide, GA32-0887-40 for more information.
- z/OS V2R5 requires a z13/z13s (or later) processor. See the z/OS V2R5 Introduction and Release Guide, GA32-0887-50 for more information.
- z/OS V3R1 requires a z14 (or later) processor.
- Information on Processor Version Codes and SRM Constants (including information returned by STIDP and STSI).
z13 last processor to run in 31 bit mode.
ReplyDeleteMore accurately, z13 is the last processor to have ESA/390 mode.
DeleteI see that your page references the -09 edition of the Reference Summary and the -11 edition of Principles. I asked Tim Raley about these and he indicated they would be published "mid-august", which I guess is right about now.
ReplyDeleteWere you able to get early access?
